Croatia - Idyllic Istria - Mountain Bike Holiday

Istria is the large Adriatic peninsula situated in the northwest of Croatia, a region with an ancient history, stunning coastline, rolling countryside with medieval hilltop towns and villages.

In this mountain biking holiday the spidersweb of ancient old roads, tracks and paths provide an excellent network of trails that criss-crossing the countryside and allow us to explore the hills and fertile green valleys that stretch down to the sea. This Croatian mountain biking holiday is ideal for the regular cyclist, those relatively new to mountain biking or for those looking for some cross country off road riding and to explore a hidden corner of Europe.

Croatia also has some fine food and wine to offer and on this trip we'll sample the best of it.

Our start point for this mountain biking holiday is a small agritourismo near the village of Klostar, situated near the dramatic Lim fjord and provides an excellent introduction to the warm Croatian hospitality. From Klostar, our mountain biking holiday heads inland through vineyards to the beautiful old capital of Istria, Pazin.

From Pazin we follow a trail through the very heart of Istria to Buzet (City of Truffles), and then onto Motovun, another beautiful old town, our base for the next few nights of our mountain biking holiday as we explore the surrounding hills, famous for their truffles. Our mountain biking holiday then takes us down a stunning coastline to finish in the town of Umag.
